Watching Greyhound Races – A Brief History

In 1926, the oval track and mechanical hare were brought into the UK. It became the new face of modern Greyhound racing that we still have today since coursing started officially in 1776.

The sport became very popular and now, while it may not have maintained the pull that it once did in its heyday, the dogs are still racing as strong as ever.

The biggest competitions in the sport are the Greyhound Derby, Category One (previously known as Classic races), Category Two and Three races.

These days, Greyhound racing in the UK is regulated by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (registered racing) and independent racing. 21 dedicated racing tracks exist in Great Britain, all except one of them are in England – with the other one in Scotland.

If you can’t get to the track, the great news is that you can watch from wherever you like with these live streams on your chosen device.
