Yarmouth Upcoming Live Streamed Races
Great Yarmouth Racecourse is a flat racing venue operating just north of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk, England.
The history of the course goes as far back as 1715 when a lease was granted by the Great Yarmouth Corporation to a group of innkeepers. The land was to be used to stage a number of race meetings.
It is possible that intermittent racing took place there beforehand and into the 18th century, with races taking place at the same time as the annual town fair. Events such as pig chases and donkey racing took place to coincide with these events.
It wasn’t until 1810 where the official Racing Calendar first recorded meetings with thoroughbred races with a decent amount of prize money. Like most courses, races went on hiatus during the war but after the suspension the course moved to North Denes.
This was partially due to pressure from the fishing industry who wished to expand onto the racecourse land in South Denes. The original grandstands were dismantled and relocated to North Denes, where they are still in use during present-day races.
Course Ownership Changes
The local authority of Great Yarmouth took over the ownership from 1904 onwards and the racecourse was developed and designed to benefit the townspeople. They achieved this by providing entertainment and because the profit also allowed them to keep admission rates down for the local people.
Since 2001 the local authority has maintained its status as minority shareholders in a new company, Northern Racing which became majority shareholder. This allowed improvements to be financed that the council couldn’t afford, like the construction of a third, additional grandstand.
The course ownership again changed in 2012 with Arena Racing Company, which owns several of the UK’s racecourses.
Ones to Watch at Great Yarmouth
The racecourse hosts the annual Eastern Festival, which is the biggest event in the Great Yarmouth Calendar. It takes place every September and the races are held in conjunction with the local greyhound track.
Many top name jockeys and up-and-coming two-year-old horses compete at Yarmouth.
The biggest race to take place at this festival, and the biggest at the racecourse in general is the John Musker Fillies Stakes. This is a listed race that, as the name suggests, is open to fillies and mares three years and older, running over a distance of one mile and two furlongs.
It is the race with the highest purse at Yarmouth, and the three-day festival is developed around the race. It features a purse of £50,000 with the winner receiving £28,110.
While not one of the courses with the biggest national headliners, the top races to definitely stream live from Great Yarmouth, in our opinion, are the following:
Month | Meeting | Race |
---|---|---|
September | Eastern Festival of Racing | John Musker Fillies' Stakes |
June | June Meeting | Sky Sports Racing Novice Stakes |
Great Yarmouth Races Live Stream: Course Layout
The track is a narrow oblong in shape, and has a distance of around a mile and five furlongs around, with two straights about five furlongs in length. The course is run left-handed and is used only for flat racing.
The finishing straight can be extended to allow for races up to a mile long on a straight course. The two bends at either end of the course are sharp, but separated by the two long straights.
It is almost entirely flat with a slight fall just before the long straight. It is considered by many a fair and relatively simple challenge.

As well as the multiple grandstands which provide excellent views for racegoers. That’s in addition to an array of premium hospitality options for guests. It includes a number of private suites priced at around £70 per person. There are also with catering options for anywhere up to 200 guests.
The most recent grandstand is the Lord Nelson Grandstand. It features nine different sized hospitality suites with balconies overlooking the race track and featuring a glorious sea view.
There are suites located in the centre of the course next to the winning post with outdoor seating. These suites in the Lord Nelson stand can cater between 15 and 50 people.
All of the suites offer brilliant aerial views of the course. An alternative option is the use of private marquees in the centre of the course. These provide the ultimate race day experience for a much larger crowd.
