The course is one of the most regular fixtures throughout the entire year due to its availability for flat and jumps racing.
Kempton live racing is enjoyed by fans from all around the country who travel to the venue to enjoy the consistent, moderate quality action.
Kempton Park Course Layouts
When you watch the Kempton Park races live stream, you will see that the flat course is made of a polytrack synthetic surface. It was changed from turf to the all-weather surface in 2006.
Thankfully, none of the annual Kempton turf flat races were moved elsewhere and instead just ran on the polytrack.
The track is a large oval shape, with a greater extension available to cater for the longer trips.
The course extension means that there is a differentiation in the bend coming into the straight.
The shorter 5f/6f circuit means that the home bend is sharper and tighter, meaning that if runners struggle for a position or get caught in traffic on that bend, they are left with a lot to do on the 2f home straight.
However, the extended track has a smoother and more open bend which takes the emphasis away from the nippy and handy types, instead allowing for a more consistent and straightforward trip.
The jumps track is also regarded as quite a straightforward track. The circuit is almost a right-angled triangle, with three open bends and long extended straights.
Like most National Hunt tracks, due to the season running in the winter, the track is often a much stiffer test for runners when the weather hasn’t been ideal and the surface has gone heavy or soft; whereas, on the occasions where it is good to firm then the trip is a joy for jockeys due to its open nature.
Watching at Kempton Park
The grandstand has a perfect view of almost half of the track, where fans can see the horses entering the home bend all the way to the finishing line.
In contrast, the jumps course is incredibly open and very natural, with a lack of buildings and instead a greater focus on showcasing the racing on offer.
Unlike most jumps courses, Kempton has refrained from planting trees or erecting buildings within the centre of the circuit which allows those with binoculars to see the majority of the race.
Live Streaming Calendar Highlights from Kempton Park
Kempton’s most notable race across both courses is most certainly the King George VI Chase. The event is the highlight of Kempton’s Christmas festival, with it taking place on Boxing Day every year for 4-year-olds and over.
The race is 3 miles long and the runners must tackle 18 fences before battling to the finishing line in front of the packed grandstand.
The race is often targeted by owners who are looking to get a good quality race under their horses’ belt before they go on to compete in the Gold Cup Chase at Cheltenham.
In recent years, Nicky Henderson’s Might Bite and Paul Nicholls’ two-time winner Clan Des Obeaux both won the King George IV before going to Cheltenham.
Another race held in high regard on the Kempton racing calendar is the Sirenia Stakes. The Group 3 flat race is a 6f sprint for specifically two-year-olds, each competing for the 1st place prize of £38,000.
In 2019 the race was won by top prospect Streamline, who was ridden to a one-length victory over Oh Purple Reign by Hector Crouch.

The flat racecourse does not have the most scenic of views. Due to the brown surface, the views seem to lack a sense of greenery – however, a large forest does surround the track itself that does compensate for the man-made feel of the track.
Kempton is a favourite for many racing fans and is well-attended all year round. The Jockey Club almost closed both the flat and jumps courses in favour of building houses in 2017, suggesting building a replacement all-weather course at Newmarket instead.
However, the outrage amongst workers and racing fans meant that the decision was reconsidered, and the plans were dropped.
The courses both provide a true racing experience and offer some of the country’s most exciting action all year round, anyone who attends often revisit or recommend it to their friends, whether they are avid racing lovers or not.

Watch this video footage streamed live from Kempton Park as Clan Des Obeaux wins his second King George VI. Cruising into a 21-length lead after a patient ride by Sam Twiston-Davies, he beats stablemate Cyrname and then-Gold Cup prospect Lostintranslation. Impressive, to say the least!
