Ripon Upcoming Live Streamed Races
Ripon Races is set in the open countryside and has an extensive history in horse racing stretching as far back as the 1600s.
Although meetings have been staged over several venues in the area, it eventually moved to its current location; This is now at Boroughbridge Road which has been an important fixture on the racing scene ever since.
Ripon itself is one of the smallest and oldest cities in England. The course is said to reflect the cheerfulness of the people if the city. Adding this to its bright array of flowerbeds and highly maintained lawns, the course has the moniker of Yorkshire’s “Garden Racecourse”.
Ripon is a popular choice with Yorkshire-based owners; It has even been voted the “Best Small Racecourse in the North” by the Racegoers Club several times.
Currently, the annual race season at Ripon hosts several races between April and September; Some of which include Ripon’s “Big Night Out” and Family Day in May, Ladies Day in June. Another is the opening day of the Go Racing in Yorkshire in July.
The two highest-earning and most well-known fixtures in Ripon, however, are the Great St. Wilfrid Day Handicap and the Ripon Champion Two Years Old Trophy. Both of these take place in August.
The Great St Wilfred Handicap is a six-furlong sprint named after the town’s patron saint. It is said to be near-impossible to pick the winner as it regularly attracts an incredibly large number of runners.

Meanwhile, the Ripon Champion Two Years Old Trophy is run on August Bank Holiday Monday and often attracts the top young horses from stables around the UK.
There are three options for viewing the races: the Hornblower Room, the Rowels Boxes, and the Club Dining Room. The Rowels Boxes are especially notable for offering an uninterrupted panoramic view of every race.
That said, however, Ripon is one of the few racecourses to feature a permanent giant screen. Audience members will, therefore, have a very close view of the horses as they run regardless of their seat.
An independent conference venue run by Livius Events is also available for conference events nearby Ripon. This venue’s largest conference suite, the Wakeman can accommodate as much as 200 people.
Unfortunately, getting to Ripon Races can be difficult without a vehicle, as it requires a combination of buses and/or cabs to travel there from the closest stations. This makes it a prime candidate for watching the Ripon races live streaming service.
History of Horse Racing in Ripon
The earliest known meeting for horse racing took place on Bondgate Green in 1664, a little less than a mile from the racecourse’s current site. After this first meeting, various venues were used in the 236 years that followed, but none of these ever saw any long-lasting success.
There was one meeting in 1723 that particularly stood out, however, as it was the first race to exclusively feature female jockeys.
Still, it would not be until the year 1900 that Ripon would establish a permanent fixture in regular flat racing. Located on Boroughbridge Road, between the Ripon Canal and the River Ure, this is the site that Ripon still uses to this day.
For a brief period between 1916 and 1919, the southern half of the racecourse was used as a base for a squadron of the Royal Flying Corps. The ground was also used occasionally for civilian aircrafts in the 1920s.
Regardless, since the racecourse’s first meeting on August 6th, 1900, racing in Ripon has grown so much that it is now regarded as the flagship sport of this medieval market town.
Ripon Races Live: Course Layout
The full course is made up of a right-handed, slightly sharp oval with a straight stretch attached. It is a surprisingly difficult challenge, not being as flat as it might first appear.
Ripon features several pronounced undulations in the straight and some very tight bends. This course lends itself to the most skilled of gallopers.
In longer races with good conditions, the advantage often goes to horses who lead from the front.
With its rich history, many events have been recorded at Ripon Racecourse. Below is possibly the earliest known video footage at Ripon. You can see the troops who were stationed at Ripon Army Camp as they enjoyed the festivities of St. George’s Day in 1916:
