Doncaster Upcoming Live Streamed Races

The Doncaster Racecourse is located in the town of the same name in South Yorkshire, England, in just about the centre of the UK. The course moved to its current location in 1776.

Doncaster Races: Course Layouts

The course at Doncaster is pear-shaped and left-handed with a length of nearly two flat miles.

Doncaster’s flat course

The racecourse is one of the largest venues available for the horse racing in Great Britain and first-time visitors often find themselves overwhelmed by the track itself and the adjoining grandstand.

The National Hunt course at Doncaster Races

Doncaster racecourse is not just one of the oldest, but also the largest racecourse in Britain. The first regular race meetings at Doncaster date back to the 16th century and the presence of a course on a 1595 map of Town Moor reinforces this claim.

The then organisers of the course decided to shut down the track in the 1600s. This was when a number of thugs and looters were seen by the nearby locals during race events. Proof that yobs have always existed!

A proper racecourse was marked in 1614 and a fence put around it put to keep the place and guests safe from trouble-makers.

At the time of World War 1, the course was extensively used for military purposes. This was due to its size and strategic location. Accordingly, races were temporarily shifted to the Newmarket racecourse from 1915 to 1918.

For the first time at Doncaster, a Sunday meeting was staged in 1992. It attracted a crowd of more than 20,000 racing enthusiasts in spite of there being no betting opportunity.

Soon after, a number of racecourses across the UK followed suit, and Sunday meetings have been regularly organised ever since.

Watching Doncaster Racing Live

The grandstand at Doncaster racecourse has become a first-class venue for equestrians, racing enthusiasts and people looking to have fun.

The 2006 million-dollar redevelopment added a sleek five-tier Grandstand and improved conferences and event management facilities. The new construction has played a big part in Doncaster’s popularity and continued success over the years.

The five-tier grandstand houses a plethora of hospitality services for guests. That means private suites for the elites, several restaurants with fine-dining, and bars stacked with the best champagne and wine.

Viewing points

Doncaster offers four distinct enclosure settings for guests coming for some of the most prestigious races in Great Britain. Located on the third floor of Lazarus Stand, the Premier Suite is fronted with giant floor-to-roof glass windows. As you can imagine, it provides spectacular views of the course.

Guests at the suite are treated with world-class services. It ensures exclusive space, whether you are on business or spending a day off with family/friends.

The County Enclosure provides access to one of the best hospitality services in British racecourses. This includes full access to the three-story Lazarus Grandstand and a series of fancy food outlets and bars.

Guests with a County badge are not limited to the enclosure premises. They are encouraged to visit the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure as well as the Saddling Boxes which provide panoramic views of the course and the winning post. Smart attire is a requirement for both the Premier Suite and County Enclosure.

Doncaster Racecourse is solely owned by Arena Racing Company.

Just like the previous two, the Grandstand Enclosure offers a series of restaurants and refreshment outlets at the Lazarus Stand’s ground floor. Guests with grandstand badges are treated to an al-fresco terrace which provides amazing views with seating.

The last among the enclosures at Doncaster is the Family Enclosure, a perfect place for a fun-filled family’s day out. Unlike the others, everyone is permitted to bring picnics here. There is also the Silver Patriarch Bar for a quick snack and to choose between several beverage options.

A Tote Betting facility and an ATM are also available for those who might be feeling lucky. Parking outside the track premises is not charged. However, a £5 pass can be obtained for parking inside the field during festival meetings.
