The course is one of the oldest racecourses in North Yorkshire to offer a combination of flat and jump races.

Catterick Races Live: Course Layout

You can see below that Catterick features a sharp and undulating left-hand track which is slightly oval in shape. The mile-long track also comes with gravel subsoil, so the going is typically good at Catterick.

The flat course at Catterick

The flat fixtures are organised during the summer months while the national hunt racing fixtures take place throughout the winter.

Catterick’s National Hunt course

Racing at the Catterick racecourse began during the mid-17th century with the first-ever race meeting reported to have taken place in 1783. However, a permanent course was not established until 1813.

Over the years, the Catterick racecourse has garnered a good reputation among other rivals in the North and it has been referred to a being one of the more glamorous courses.

Catterick Bridge is located in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire and is relatively easy to reach. The course is just five miles south of the Scotch Corner junction, so a direct route via A1 will take you straight to the Catterick Village

After that, the signposts along the way will lead you to the course in minutes. The racecourse is one of the many homes of Northern England’s racing heritage.

The course here is considered a favourite among many regional owners and trainers and is a popular racing destination for many equestrians throughout the year.

The racecourse grounds at Catterick Bridge are used for the largest Sunday market in the whole of Britain, the Catterick Sunday Market which is held on Sundays throughout the year.

Views at Catterick

The first proper grandstand at Catterick was established in 1906 when meetings started to occur annually. Numerous minor and large renovation projects have been carried out at the course in the last century.

Even after more than a hundred years, the old framework is still evident in the present two-tier grandstand; This gives a charming English vibe to the racegoers.

As with other racecourses in the north, Catterick is famous for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

There are a few private boxes on the upper floor of the grandstand for race fans who can afford it. These are suitable for corporate gatherings as well as for a day with family and friends.

The Grandstand and Paddock Enclosures provide access to all the major facilities at the racecourse; Thes include the Winner’s Enclosure along with the Parade Ring. Guests at this enclosure have panoramic views of both the flat and National Hunt courses from either grandstand tier.

There are a series of food and refreshment outlets in this enclosure to serve the guests. These range from fining dining venues such as the Winning Streak Restaurant to the Furlongs Café.

More to See at Catterick Bridge

Other attractions in the grandstand and paddock enclosure are the Gods Solution Bar and the Champions Bar and Buffet. Picnics are, however, not welcome here.

There is also a variety of betting options for racegoers available at this enclosure. This includes a walk through the betting ring, a visit to the Tote Betting shop, or one of the several Totepool windows.

The course enclosure is positioned in the centre of the track itself and provides the closest view of the course. Like the grandstand enclosure, a number of restaurants and bars are set up in the course enclosure before every meeting.

There is an open playground for the kids and Totepool betting windows are also made available. If you decide to transfer to the premium Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure, a transfer ticket costs only 10 Pounds.

Parking is available free of charge but is limited to a first-come basis because of the size of the parking area.

Watching a Catterick races live stream will, of course, alleviate you from the issues of needing to find the best vantage point to watch the racing action from.

Catterick Streaming Race Calendar Highlights

The respectable Friday Ladies Evening flat race meeting takes place in August and attracts large crowds of Northerners. The sharp nature of the course makes it a difficult track for long striding-horses; Those with athletic body types are generally favoured.

The Catterick Bridge course might not host racing of the same calibre and quality as other courses in York. However, it did witness the bumper winning spree of the racing champion Collie Hill in March 2002.

The star horse then went onto win several prestigious flat races, including the Irish St. Leger, Hong Kong Vase and the Canadian International Stakes
