The Lincolnshire town has always been massively fond of horse racing; However, all through the 20th century they never had their very own confirmed track. Instead, the town would host meetings at varying different local tracks.

Fortunately, in 1924 four local racing fans managed to pull together the funds to buy land on Willinghome Road. They built a track there, which is still where it remains today.

Market Rasen Races Live Stream: Course Layout

The National Hunt track is rectangular shaped and has four short and sharp bends. Due to the extensive flats on the home straight and around the back of the course, the track does favour the best travellers and often front runners.

The straights are relatively flat but due to how long they are; If jockeys let their competitors get first run on them then they often find themselves back-pedalling through the field. Thus there is often a race to lead the pack when the starter drops his flag.

Due to the broad straights and manageable-sized fences, the most significant obstacle in the entire circuit is seen as the first fence on the home straight.

By this stage in the race, the focus is usually on making up ground or breaking away from the pack. Therefore the attention is turned away from the fences and rather on the speed.

In recent seasons, the fence has claimed many fallers. This is due to the jockeys’ attention being on (rather than on the fences):

  • getting momentum, and
  • positioning themselves ready to break away

This then leads to some horses getting their footing wrong or underestimating the fence.

Viewing at Market Rasen

Racing fans in the grandstand have a brilliant view of the majority of the track. That’s due, in part, to how flat the course is.

There are very few patches of rising/falling ground to hinder the view. The course has a backdrop of fields and forests, as the track lies in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside.

Spectators can enjoy the racing from all angles, as well as have a prime view of the parade ring. The parade ring is very much in front of the stands and a centrepiece of the course.

It’s something of an unfamiliar characteristic compared to many racecourses; Others tend the put the parade ring in a separate section of the course.

The venue also has a very racing-consistent theme with different areas of the course named after familiar racing names; For example the ‘Tiger Roll bar’ and the ‘Altior restaurant’. Both areas are named after the racing heroes that both won on debut at the course not so many years ago.

The area is racing-obsessed and the variety of friendly faces at the course showcases how racing can bring people together. The course is very accessible and there is no shortage of viewing spots.

There’s an open concourse and three viewing stands as well as the restaurants, cafes and bars on offer. All of this can’t be experienced on the Market Rasen live stream, but it’s the next best thing.

Plus you won’t miss a moment and can watch unlimited replays for free as well.

Live Streamed Races to Watch from Market Rasen

The most popular day in the Market Rasen calendar is the Summer Plate meeting. Racing fans travel from far and wide to watch both Summer Hurdle and the Summer Plate, which takes place in late July.

The Summer Hurdle is a 2 mile and 148-yard Listed race over hurdles, it is open for three-year-olds and over.

The Class 1 race was won in 2019r by 25/1 outsider Grapevine; He stayed on well in the final furlong to put 1.75 lengths between himself and the second-placed Legal History.

This is then followed by the Summer Plate, which has got a £20,000 greater prize pot (£50,000). The Listed race is 2 miles 5 furlongs and 89 yards long, it is only open for four-year-olds and older.

The race provides a great opportunity for horses to get a Class 1 race to their name without having to compete against the best of the best. For example, race winners More Buck’s (2018) and Alcala (2017) have not won a race of that class since their Summer Plate victory.
