Fairyhouse Upcoming Live Streamed Races

The standout race in the entire Fairyhouse Racecourse racing calendar is the Irish Grand National. The race was first run at the venue in 1870 and has been a roaring success ever since.

Fairyhouse Courses

There are two courses at the racecourse, flat and jumps. Let’s take a look at what you can expect to see when watching on the live stream.

Flat Course

The flat course at Fairyhouse is a mile and six furlongs long, square track. However, in a smart technical decision, the track isn’t overly sharp because of how wide the course is; This means that those on the wider draws aren’t forced into the bend and can take it as they wish.

The course is relatively flat in all, although the home straight is on slightly rising ground. This isn’t uncommon in racecourses, however, Fairyhouse’s home straight is three furlongs long.

That means it is a constant rising battle, which in turn can make it difficult for those who run off the pace to make up the ground; It can also allow front runners to power home as a result.

Jumps Course

The National Hunt course, one of Ireland’s most famous racecourses, is a track that rarely pops up with unlucky losers or course specialists because it is so neutral.

The track is a square, right-handed course that is wide and galloping in character- with a scattering of ascending and descending ground to make it more of a test.

There is steadily rising ground going away from the stands which then descends on the back straight. That’s before reaching a flat straight coming into the home bend and then yet more rising ground for the three-furlong-long home straight.

The run-in is approximately one furlong long on the circuit course, with a packed-out circuit of eleven fences meaning that those who are a bit inconsistent in the air will usually be found out.

Viewing at Fairyhouse Racecourse

The course has two huge stands where racing fans can spectate the action before them. Both stands are roofed mainly for protection in the winter months but also as a sun shield for summer meetings.

The stands have brilliant views of the course, and due to the lack of anything of significance surrounding the venue, even as far as forestry,  the views are as pure of the action on offer.

Fairyhouse meetings are always well-attended and even the atmosphere at regular meetings is said to be of the sort of a festival with bubbly and cheerful Irish vibes.

The scattering of bookmakers available on the concourse means that punters have plenty of options to place their bets; That will be music to the ears of those that have inside sources at Irish stables as they can heap their euros on.

This is a more regular occurrence than you’d think at Fairyhouse Racecourse because of the substantial prize funds on offer there.

If you’re looking for a racecourse to visit for an excellent day out, may it be with friends and family, then Fairyhouse should definitely be a place you consider visiting, racing fan or not.

Fairyhouse Racing Calendar Highlights

Fairyhouse plays host to the widely popular Easter Festival, which is three days long. There are heaps of Grade 1 and Grade 2 action spread over the extended weekend, with the Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final and Powers Gold Cup to name two of many top races.

However, no race at the festival is more prestigious than the Irish Grand National.

The Irish Grand National is a three-mile and five-furlong long steeplechase that takes place every Easter Monday. In order to qualify for the race, horses must be five years old or older.

The overall prize pot for the race is five hundred thousand euros, with two hundred and seventy thousand of that going to the overall race winner. The most significant winner of the race is undoubtedly Desert Orchid

The famous grey won the race in 1990 in an unbelievable year where he also won the Racing Post Chase and his fourth King George VI Chase. The David Elsworth gelding finished his career with a Timeform rating of 187, sixth in the overall rankings for horses on chase courses behind Kauto Star, Mill House, Sprinter Sacre, Flyingbolt and Arkle.
