Tramore Course Overview

Being just walking distance from Tramore town, local racing fans often fill up the grandstand at the course. At every meeting onlookers can be seen want a glimpse of the promising young horses coming through the Irish ranks.

Flat Course

The flat course at Tramore is essentially a specialist track. Horses either absolutely love the track, or they despise it and owners come away knowing never to send them there again – there seems to be no in between!

The track is a sharp, right-handed oval circuit with lots of tight turns, making it a tricky ride for the more restless of runners.

Unusually, Tramore has no starting stalls and instead all races begin with a flag start. This often leads to some controversy as those who have never raced at the course are not familiar with the system and if they miss the jump then the race is essentially over before it has really begun.

An uphill, one furlong home straight can sometimes cause some issues for those who have been sent on by their jockeys too early, however those who break well, and front run are never really for catching unless the ground is soft.

Jumps Course

The National Hunt track at Tramore is, arguably, sharper than its partnering flat course due to its shape which is a rounded off square.

Handy horses often prevail at the track as they are capable of tackling the sharp turns without too much hesitation, whereas those that prefer long straights and open bends never get along with the course.

The true test of a horse comes just before the home straight. There is a downhill straight before the second to last fence, of five, which often can claim some fallers given how much momentum the runners build up going downhill.

Then after tackling that jump, they must tackle the uphill home straight, which is incredibly short being just 160 yards long.

Viewing at Tramore Racecourse

The venue itself has two large, identical stands that overlook the entire course and also have easy accessibility to the parade ring (located to the left hand side of the venue).

The stands have a great view of the track and because of how flat the course is, you can see the horses coming from a good distance away.

The track is very much out in the open, which can leave it feeling isolated. However, this aspect also puts a definite focus on the racing on offer rather than the venue itself, which some racecourses that are renovated nowadays seem to do.

When not seeing it on the Tramore racing live stream, the Tramore racecourse is certainly worth visiting all year round. However if you’re in search of an amazing atmosphere when the course is buzzing, the August festival is what you are looking for.

Tramore Racing Calendar Highlights

The standout section of the Tramore racing calendar is their aforementioned four day August summer festival. It stages both flat and National Hunt racing, enabling them to showcase both of their beautiful tracks.

The Tramore Festival is quite a niche festival but incredibly popular. A good number of people from abroad are known to travel to the track just to feast their eyes on the racing on offer.

Here are some of the real standout races that can be seen on the Tramore racing live stream:

One of the most notable races outside of those listed above would have to be the Listed Steeplechase which is always run on New Year’s Day. The race is a Class 1 and is open for horses that are five years old and above.

Being hosted on the first day of the new year, the race is often run in heavy conditions due to the usual December/January downpour in Ireland.

These conditions, matched with the fact the race is two miles and five furlongs long, means that the race can be a mud bath at times and a real trudge. It really can be a proper test for those who don’t like heavy ground.

Here’s the ideal way to get excited for the Tramore horse racing live stream. Watch Muthaza win with a lot in hand at Tramore in June 2016.

Willie Mullins’ horse won her next two races and was tipped for incredible things before falling in horrendous fashion at Bellewstown.

That consequently forced vets to take appropriate but devastating action. She could’ve been so incredibly special and is sorely missed by the Mullins yard.
